MacroSAN MS5000, a new-generation high-end and mid-range storage product launched by MacroSAN, is oriented to cloud computing environment, combines various advanced design ideas and technical architectures. MacroSAN MS5000 provides a secure and reliable storage platform with high performance and flexible resource deployment for medium-sized and large data centers.

With the technologies for new-generation data center integrate and change brought by cloud computing, the traditional storage system faces great challenges by diversified and massive terminals, virtual and distributed applications, and larger data centers. The traditional storage systems can no longer address needs of the new-generation data centers. Due to its disadvantages, such as lack of automatic operation and management, low-speed hardware architecture with low concurrent access performance, technical restriction of a single type of storage medium, resources binding between pre-defined and fixed applications, and closed type of data management, the traditional storage system greatly prevents data center’s development. The new-generation application system under cloud computing environment challenges both software and hardware design of the storage system. To adapt to the new-generation application system, the storage system must provide performance dozens of times better than the original volume, enable dynamic configuration and automatic management, support application driven and intelligent management, lower one-time purchasing cost, maintenance and management costs, and consume less energy. Additional functions and improvements base on the traditional storage system are not enough. The software and hardware architectures must be transformed and innovated.

The MS5000 employs the latest chip technology to provide a high-reliability hardware platform with high performance, thus delivering large-capacity caching, high bandwidth, and a processing capability more than a hundred GB for massive concurrent applications. Regarding resource management, the MS5000 combines the cell-based virtualization technology to support flexible resource deployment through an innovative intelligent cell management technology (ICMT). Regarding reliability, the MS5000 employs two controllers for full redundancy, adopts a modular design, and offers diversified data protection mechanisms. Its innovative CRAID technology and IDDC mechanism reduce system down time and probability caused by disk faults by 80%. Based on the open data storage platform (ODSP), the MS5000 can seamlessly integrate with the application systems of customers through open interfaces, custom specifications and functions, developed and embedded programs for industrial solutions.

The MS5000 is available in the following models by configuration: MS5020, MS5040, and MS5080.
